We recommend it as a comfortable, albeit simple, base from which to explore Lake Natron. Small birds or bats that try and fail to cross the 12- by 30-mile lake fall in, as do insects like beetles and locusts. The team bent over backwards to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. A small portion of the lake its northern tip lies over the border in southern Kenya. The elongated lake is 56 km long from north to south, and 24 km wide. Its simplicity fits the harsh environment anything lavish might have felt gaudy or inappropriate, nestled in amongst the surrounding Maasai villages. Lake Natron is in northern Tanzania, just over a 100 km northwest of the city of Arusha. The lake is located inside Lake Natron Basin, which is a Ramsar Site wetland of worldwide importance. It is located in the Gregory Rift, which is part of the East African Rift Valley‘s eastern branch. Lake Natron is an alkaline or saline lake in Tanzania’s Arusha Region, located in the north Ngorongoro District. The shallow lake is no more than 3 meters deep at its deepest point. The Natron lake is mainly fed by water from the southern Ewaso Ng’iro river and mineral-rich hot springs. It’s located in the Gregory Rift, the eastern branch of the East African Rift. Lake Natron Camp is certainly one of the most unusual camps we have ever stayed in. The camp also sits alongside a natural spring which feeds into a nearby soda lake − a swim in the cool water is also a great way to combat the heat. This allows the light and lovely breeze through, but softens the suns rays and heat dramatically. Lake Natron is located in northern Tanzania, approximately 100 kilometres northwest of the city of Arusha. (Note that this camp is often simply called 'Lake Natron Camp' but should not be confused with the nearby Lake Natron Tented Camp.) It is a very open environment here, so each tent and the main mess tent are sheltered under a thick camouflage netting/mesh.
